Through the simple comparison of a SHRUB and a TREE, the concept of the FAMILY SHRUB and the “shrub not a tree” philosophy started to grow with the hopes of providing "nontraditional" families like ours with an alternative concept to the traditional FAMILY TREE. Although similar in many ways, a FAMILY SHRUB and a FAMILY TREE are also quite different; yet, equally important and meaningful to the world around them.
Our FAMILY may be more of a SHRUB than a TREE, but this is the FAMILY we have grown to be; a FAMILY groomed, pruned, and shaped by God’s love and grace. By sharing the story of how our FAMILY has grown to be, our hope is not for the FAMILY SHRUB to chop down the FAMILY TREE. Instead, through the “shrub not a tree” philosophy, our hope is to help other FAMILIES embrace the growth and intentional blessing of their FAMILY, while helping them to also achieve God’s purpose for planting their FAMILY.
Whether our FAMILIES grow to be more of a SHRUB or more of a TREE, we are ALL a part of God’s kingdom and His one big FAMILY!
